One of the most common complaints of dieters is that although they have reduced their intake of calories they are still not losing weight as they hoped they would. Starvation diets seem like a good way to lose weight quickly but they are not, for many reasons. First of all, your body needs a certain number of calories each day to stay healthy. Calories help your body produce energy. Without adequate calories dieters may feel weak and if they do lose weight they will look emaciated rather than healthy and vibrant. Fortunately there are many ways to burn fat without caloric deprivation.
This does not mean dieters should eat whatever they please or overload on calories. The first step is to find out how many calories you require daily based on gender, current weight, height and activity level. There are free calculators and charts online that can help you determine your recommended range of caloric intake. Some will even show you how many calories you need to maintain your current weight, lose weight, or gain weight.
When attempting to lose weight, you need to reduce your calories by a certain amount, however many dieters go overboard and try strategies like skipping meals or cutting carbohydrates. A better approach is to follow a diet that encourages regular eating of low-calorie, high-nutrient foods. Some of these healthy foods even burn calories because your body expends more energy digesting the food than the calories it contains. While celery is a common example, other foods include berries and lean turkey just to name two. In addition to choosing your foods carefully, you can burn fat by exercising. For most people, regular exercise is recommended not only for weight loss but overall health and wellness. While walking is one of the most efficient and easiest forms of calorie burning, machines like the elliptical are ideal for those who want to eliminate impact on the joints. In addition to a regular cardiovascular routine, strength and flexibility training are recommended for the majority of exercisers. These types of exercise can be modified to suit the needs of all ages and fitness levels.
